Ondřej Vetchý plays František Vedral, a struggling but resourceful young criminal in communist times who seizes the opportunities capitalist reforms offer to ascend to a position of corrupt great eminence in Czech society. His nemesis: incorruptible police investigator Cajthaml (Lukáš Vaculík), who’s determined to get his man and see that justice be served but who has the odds stacked against him by a quarry whose criminal tentacles reach into the very fabric of the new political and judicial systems he serves.
